German Parliament clears bailout fund expansion plan

Sensex ends 252 pts higher on settlement day

A smart rally on the expiry day, led by heavyweights, helped the Nifty to shut shop above the key psychological 5,000 mark. Oil & gas, private banks, technology, FMCG and auto stocks played a key role in today's upmove. The 30-share BSE Sensex rallied 252.05 points or 1.53%, to close at 16,698.07 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 69.55 points or 1.41%, to end at 5,015.45.  

About 603 shares advanced as against 824 shares declined on National Stock Exchange. Total traded turnover on both exchanges was more than Rs 2.43 lakh crore

Sterling Holiday Resorts (India) hit upper circuit of 10% at Rs 102.55 on reports investors Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and Radhakrishna Damani have invested around Rs 40 crore each for a 7.1% stake each in the firm in the past 2 months

KFA drops after decision to exit low-cost segment. The company's chairman Vijay Mallya on Wednesday, 28 September 2011, said the airline will end its low-cost flights in four months. KFA closed below its 52 week bottom can futher slide downside to rs. 20.

GAIL (I)
GAIL (India) said its US-based unit has acquired a 20% stake in Houston-based Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc.'s (CRZO) Eagle Shale Ford acreage. GAIL will invest around $300 million over five years, including an upfront cash payment of $63.7 million and a carry amount of $31.3 million linked to Carrizo's future drilling and development costs, GAIL said in a statement. The counter can move upto rs. 440 to rs. 456, with sl of rs. 410.

Jaiprakash Associates leads gainers in 'A' group

Container Corporation of India, Adani Power, Torrent Power and Jaiprakash Power Ventures are among the other gainers.

Power sector stocks dominated the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group today, 29 September 2011. Adani Power climbed 4.61% to Rs 87.35. The stock was third biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Power generation and distribution firm Torrent Power rose 4.29% to Rs 226.15. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC), earlier this month, reportedly allowed the company to raise tariff in Ahmedabad by 22 paisaper unit and in Surat by 12 paisa per unit.

Power generation firm Jaiprakash Power Ventures rose 4.26% to Rs 34.25. The stock was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Diversified Jaiprakash Associates jumped 6.29% to Rs 74.40. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group.

State-run Container Corporation of India galloped 6.03% to Rs 966.15. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group.
