2012 to be a difficult year for markets, warns BofA ML
After yesterday's 420 point sprint on the Sensex, the market was expected to cool its heels and that’s what exactly it did today. The day of consolidation was also due to tepid global cues, which kept the indices range-bound.
During the day, Nifty crossed the 5,100 mark but failed to hold on to the crucial psychological level while the Sensex too saw a 74 point cut to close at 16,883.
Technically, the market has reached an important level and a breakout from here could result in 150 point upmove
US growth expectations seemed to have stabilised, says Gary Baker, head of European equities strategy at BofA Merrill Lynch. However, he feels that Europe has chances of more material development.
Baker indicated that 2012 will be a difficult year for markets in terms of growth. He believes that high inflation is a cause of concern for emerging markets.
