Dhanlaxmi bank hits 52-wk low on union allegation

It was a day of consolidation as the bulls took a breather after the two-day rally. The Nifty started off strong, but soon slipped on indifferent European cues to close flat at 4,974, while the Sensex closed at 16536 down 20 points.

Shares of Dhanlaxmi Bank hit a 52-week low at Rs 54.30 on Tuesday after the All India Banks’ Officers Confederation or AIBOC, a Kerala based state union, raised questions about the lender’s financial strength. However, shares recouped their early losses to end the day at Rs 64.60, down nearly 10%, after the bank’s management had outright rejected all such allegations

Key benchmark indices edged lower amid intraday volatility as European stocks declined and US index futures edged lower ahead of a parliamentary vote in Slovakia on changes to the euro zone's rescue fund and ahead of the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's latest meeting. The market snapped two-day winning streak. The 50-unit S&P CNX Nifty settled below the psychological 5,000 mark, having alternately swungabove and below that level in intraday trade. The barometer index BSE Sensex lost 20.76 points or 0.13%, off close to 235 points from the day's high and up about 25 points from the day's low. The market breadth was positive. Small-cap and mid-cap indices rose on BSE rose.
