Pantaloon Retail (India) leads gainers in 'A' group

MMTC, Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Capital are among the other gainers

Pantaloon Retail (India) galloped 6.60% to Rs 141.40. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. Shares of the organised retailer rose after Industry Secretary, P.K. Chaudhary said that the government is soon expected to issue the notification allowing 100% foreign direct investment in single brand retail.

The Union Cabinet late last year decided to allow 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail, removing an earlier 51% cap. The government, however, had succumbed to political pressure and reversed a decision to allow 51% FDI in the multi-brand retail segment, and said a further decision would only be taken after politicalconsensus. The government is in talks with farmers and small traders over the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail and consultations with these stakeholders are likely to be completed by the month end, Mr. Chaudhary told reporters today, 6 January 2012.

MMTC jumped 6.08% to Rs 826.70, extending three-day 50.15% rally. It was second biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock rose on volume of 15.47 lakh shares, higher than an average daily volume of 5.48 lakh shares in the past two weeks. The stock outperformed the market over the past one month till 5 January 2012, rising 39.50% compared with Sensex's 5.64% decline. The scrip had also outperformed the market over the past one quarter, surging 23.58% as against Sensex's 0.41% return.

Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (ADA) Group shares gained in late trade. RelianceCommunications advanced 5.36% to Rs 77.60 and was third biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock outperformed the market over the past one month till 5 January 2012, falling 5.03% compared with Sensex's 5.64% decline. The scrip had also outperformed the market over the past one quarter, rising 1.45% as against Sensex's 0.41% return.

Reliance Infrastructure surged 5.27% to Rs 378.40 and was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock underperformed the market over the past one month till 5 January 2012, falling 12.28% compared with Sensex's 5.64% decline. The scrip had also underperformed the market over the past one quarter, declining 4.62% as against Sensex's 0.41% return.
