Market in for 2 big events: What strategy should you adopt?

Range-bound was the best way to describe today's session. The Railway Budget didn't do much for the market. The Nifty maintained a largely stable session today gaining 34 points to shut shop at 5,464 points. The Sensex gained 105 points to close just below the 18,000 mark.

The Railway Minster Dinesh Trivedi surprised one and all by announcing the first fare hike in the Railway Budget in the last ten years. However, it turned out to be a non-event for the market.

Karur Vysya Bank notched up volume of 5.15 lakh shares, a 208.41-fold rise over two-weekaverage daily volume of 2,000 shares. The stock rose 0.72% to Rs 383.60 !

Hatsun Agro Product clocked volume of 4.15 lakh shares, a 84.58-fold rise over two-weekaverage daily volume of 5,000 shares. The stock lost 1.43% to Rs 134.25 after 0.55% equity changed hands in a bulk deal on the BSE today, 14 March 2012. A bulk deal of 4 lakh shares was executed on the Hatsun Agro Product counter at Rs 138 per share at 9:19 IST on the BSE today, 14 March 2012.

City Union Bank clocked volume of 14 lakh shares, a 33.07-fold surge over two-weekaverage daily volume of 42,000 shares. The stock rose 0.84% to Rs 48.05 !
