Nifty ends flat on expiry day, down over 5% in March

U.S. fourth-quarter GDP unrevised at 3.0 pct

The NSE Nifty closed flat with a mild cut on expiry session after showing a recovery in last hour of trade, managing close above the 200 daily moving average of 5151 that touched during the day. Banks, FMCG, telecom and technology stocks stayed lower while auto and power stocks gained.

The BSE benchmark fell 63.01 points or 0.37%, to close at 17,058.61, after hitting intraday low of 16,920.61 due to weak global cues. Meanwhile, the NSE benchmark slipped 15.90 points to 5,178.85.

The U.S. economy expanded as expected in the fourth quarter while personal income grew at a much faster pace than previously thought, which should help underpin spending this quarter.

Gross domestic product increased at a 3.0 percent annual rate, the quickest pace since the second quarter of 2010, the Commerce Department said in its final estimate on Thursday, unrevised from last month's estimate.

Om Metals Infraprojects clocked volume of 24.64 lakh shares by 13:09 IST on BSE, a 77.82-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 32,000 shares. The stock surged 4.84% to Rs 26.

Opto Circuits (India) notched up volume of 3.85 lakh shares, a 6.26-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 62,000 shares. The stock rose 3.05% to Rs 195.30.

Ess Dee Aluminium clocked volume of 8.44 lakh shares, a 6.06-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 1.39 lakh shares. The stock surged 3.98% to Rs 160.65.

Trent clocked volume of 1.30 lakh shares, a 4.61-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 28,000 shares. The stock rose 0.05% to Rs 926.55.

Ahlcon Parenterals (India) clocked volume of 1.22 lakh shares, a 4.50-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 27,000 shares. The stock rose 0.77% to Rs 420.
