Dull Apr series hits mkt, Nifty ends flat; GAIL @ 52-wk low
It was completely a lacklustre trade for the BSESensex and NSE Nifty on Thursday which was the last day of April series. The 50-share NSE benchmark moved around 5200 level throughout the session and stayed in a range of 37 points. Index fell 13 points or 0.25%, to close at 5189 while gained just 10 points in the April series.
The BSE benchmark was down 20.62 points or 0.12%, to close at 17,130.67. For the April series, the index gained 0.42%.
May is usually not a great month for the market, says Anand Tandon, CEO of JRG Securities. Lot of people are on holidays, therefore the interest will be low, he added.

Edible oils maker Ruchi Soya Industries spurted 7.73% to Rs 89.90. The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 80.30 in intraday today, 26 April 2012.
Alstom T&D India galloped 6.15% to Rs 159.75. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group. The company will declare its year ended March 2012 results on 30 April 2012.
Liquor maker United Spirits jumped 5.94% to Rs 782.40. The stock was third biggest gainer in 'A' group. The company, after market hours on Wednesday, 25 April 2012, denied newsreports suggesting that Diageo is looking to buy stake in the company. United Spirits clarified that the news item is speculative and factually incorrect.
Telecommunications company Tata Communications rose 4.93% to Rs 235.15. The stock was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
India's third largest listed telecom firm by sales Idea Cellular rose 4% to Rs 83.30 ahead of its year ended March 2012 result announcement today, 26 April 2012. The stock was fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group.
Stock With Volumes :
Yes Bank clocked volume of 1.48 crore shares by 13:13 IST on BSE, a 47.93-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 3.10 lakh shares. The stock fell 2.07% to Rs 358.80.
Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services notched up volume of 4.13 lakh shares, a 10.03-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 41,000 shares. The stock rose 1.42% to Rs 679.75.
Advanta India clocked volume of 1.47 lakh shares, a 6.22-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 24,000 shares. The stock jumped 8.53% to Rs 461.90.
United Spirits clocked volume of 7.91 lakh shares, a 2.54-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 3.11 lakh shares. The stock surged 6.19% to Rs 784.25.
Zensar Technologies clocked volume of 2.63 lakh shares, a 1.99-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 1.32 lakh shares. The stock rose 3.77% to Rs 202.50.
