Sensex falls 170; RBI remark on inflation rattles buyers
Equity benchmarks tumbled Wednesday, as investors chose to take some money off the table thinking the market to have topped out for the time being.

TTK Prestige leads gainers in 'A' group, Oberoi Realty, Britannia Industries, Strides Arcolabs and Godrej Consumer Products are among the other gainers
TTK Prestige spurted 6.31% to Rs 3734.90 and topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. The company at the fag end of the day's trading session today, 16 January 2013 reported 27.56% rise in net profit to Rs 44.1 crore on 30.66% rise in total income to Rs 438.07 crore in Q3 December 2012 over Q3 December 2011.
Oberoi Realty surged 5.12% to Rs 303.85. The stock was second biggest gainer in 'A' group. The company declares its Q3 December 2012 results on Saturday, 19 January 2013.
Britannia Industries gained 1.94% to Rs 495 and was third biggest gainer in 'A' group. On BSE, 2.19 lakh shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 15,581 shares in the past one quarter.
Strides Arcolabs advanced 1.92% to Rs 1081 and was the fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. As per reports, Pfizer Inc, the world's largest drugmaker, is among other companies weighing a plan to buy Agila Specialties, the injectable-medicines unit of Bangalore-based Strides Arcolab.
Godrej Consumer Products rose 1.73% to Rs 731.05. It was the fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group. The company will announce Q3 December 2012 results on 31 January 2013.
Market loses ground after hawkish comments by RBI governor
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. On BSE, 2,001 shares fell and 938 shares rose. A total of 128 shares were unchanged. The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 2449 crore, higher than Rs 2403 crore on Tuesday, 15 January 2013. Among the 30-share Sensex pack, 24 declined while the rest of them rose.
Stock With Volumes :
Volumes jump at Gateway Distriparks counter, Parekh Aluminex, Intellivate Capital Ventures, Piramal Glass, Polaris Financial Technology are among the other stocks to see a surge in volumes on BSE today, 16 January 2013.
Gateway Distriparks clocked volume of 4.26 lakh shares by 13:07 IST on BSE, a 72.04-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 6,000 shares. The stock lost 1.38% at Rs 135.90.
Parekh Aluminex notched up volume of 6.53 lakh shares, a 37.45-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 17,000 shares. The stock was locked at 5% upper circuit at Rs 155.50.
Intellivate Capital Ventures saw volume of 14.50 lakh shares, a 22.31-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 65,000 shares. The stock was locked at 5% upper circuit at Rs 96.05.
Piramal Glass clocked volume of 6.05 lakh shares, a 17.47-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 35,000 shares. The stock lost 0.63% at Rs 86.80.
Polaris Financial Technology saw volume of 5.20 lakh shares, a 9-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 58,000 shares. The stock jumped 7.59% to Rs 129.75.
