Sensex fails to retain 20,000 level
After fluctuating between gains and losses, key benchmark indices managed to end slightly higher as gains in European stocks supported domestic bourses. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell below the psychological 20,000 mark, having alternately moved above and below that level in intraday trade. A steep slide had pushed the Sensex below the 20,000 mark on Monday, 23 September 2013. The Sensex today garnered 19.25 points or 0.1%, up close to 137 points from the day's low and off about 130 points from the day's high. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was negative.
Indian stocks snapped two-day losing streak today, 24 September 2013. The market had witnessed a steep slide recently after the Reserve Bank of India, in a surprise decision, raised its key policy rate viz. the repo rate by 25 basis points after a monetary policy review on 20 September 2013 and as the central bank retained hawkish tone in the latest monetary policy. The Sensex had fallen 745.68 points or 3.61% in two trading sessions to settle at 19,900.96 on Monday, 23 September 2013, from a recent high of 20,646.64 on 19 September 2013. CAPITAL MARKET
