A bout of volatility was witnessed during the last one hour or so of trade as key benchmark indices trimmed gains after striking fresh intraday high. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was provisionally up 33.84 points or 0.16%, off 59.33 points from the day’s high and up 38.90 points from the day’s low. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. NSE’s INDIA VIX, was flat 0.00% level, at 16.32. Amongest the Indices CNX SMALLCAP was up 0.34 % closed at 3,430.75.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 1,551 shares gained and 1,107 shares fell. A total of 169 shares were unchanged. The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 2334 crore, lower than Rs 2354 crore on Tuesday, 7 January 2014. Among the 30-share Sensex pack, 16 stocks gained and rest of them declined.
