Market Updates :  

After a day's break on Friday, 1 July 2011, the market regained its recent winning streak at the onset of the week, with data showing sustained buying by foreign funds over the past few days boosting investor sentiment. The BSE Sensex was provisionally up 46.27 points or 0.25%, up close to 25 points from the day's low and off close to 135 points from the day's high. The market breadth was strong. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) edged higher.

Realty, construction and pharma stocks rose. Reliance Infrastructure (R-Infra) jumped more than 7% on reports that the Maharashtra state government has issued orders to allot the Worli-Haji Ali Sea Link project to Reliance-Hyundai consortium. Realty major DLF surged close to 6%. Auto auto, except two-wheeler makers, rose. Banking stocks rose across the board, with shares of private sector HDFC Bank hitting a record high.

BSE Sensex was up 46.27 points or 0.25% to 18,809.07. The Sensex jumped 179.62 points at the day's high of 18,942.42 in early trade. The index rose 19.08 points at the day's low of 18,781.88 in mid-morning trade.

The S&P CNX Nifty was up 22.55 points or 0.4% to 5,649.75 as per provisional figures. The Nifty hit high of 5,679.65 in intraday trade.

BSE clocked turnover of Rs 2990 crore, higher than Rs 2756.53 crore on Friday, 1 July 2011.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE, 1,748 shares advanced while 1,072 shares declined. A total of 111 shares remained unchanged.

Among the 30-member Sensex pack, 19 stocks rose while the rest of them fell. Tata Steel, ITC and NTPC fell by between 0.92% to 1.34%.

Tata Global Beverages, Shree Renuka Sugars, Mangalore Refinery andPetrochemicals and DLF are among the other gainers.
