SHREE GANESHAY NAMAAH !

Market @ 2-year low : Anyone want to catch a falling knife ?

It was complete capitulation on Dalal Street today, as the Nifty plunged to a 2-year low of 4,650, before stabilising to close around 4,700. Meanwhile, theSensex closed with a 365 point cut to end the day at 15699.97.

The big fall has once again reinforced the bearish sentiments in the market. There was no “bad news” as such that caused indices to crash, but market these days doesn’t need much to get itself into a tizzy anyway.

Yesterday, we saw almost a thousand crore sell figure on the cash market. Today, blue-chip names like HDFC Bank, Bharti came off, leading to fears that there is some large scale sell-off or redemption from the foreign institutional investors (FIIs). To go with that there was serious amount of shorting in the Futures & Options market as well, though at 4650 it looked oversold, therefore the bears might have taken profits.

According to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the withdrawal of money by the FIIs was one of the key reasons behind the current market fall and rupee weakness and weak cues from Europe too have hurt the sentiments.
