Nifty closes below 5250; Rupee @ 53 plays spoilsport
UK’s FTSE 100 to debut on National Stock Exchange from May 3
The Indian market closed on a weak note after holding the 5250-mark for the better part of the day. The Indian rupee was trading perilously close to 53 mark.
The rupee stabilised at 52.8850/8950 against the dollar, after suspected RBI pushes it off an intraday high of 53.02. USD/INR remains well bid on the back of oil-related demand, but unlikely to breach the day's top given selling from exporters, traders say.
The Sensex shuts shop at 17301.91 down 16.90 points or 0.10% and the Nifty closed at 5239.15 down 9.00 points or 0.17%. The breadth of the market also turned negative at close. About 1327 shares advanced, 1459 shares declined, and 633 shares remain unchanged.

Market Updates :
Sun TV Network surged 5.12% to Rs 301 and topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. The stock rose on volume of 1.39 lakh shares, higher than an average daily volume of49,000 shares in the past two weeks
Titan Industries' net profit rose 39.4% to Rs 600.15 crore on 35.5% growth in net sales to Rs 8838.38 crore in the year ended 31 March 2012 over the year ended 31 March 2011.
MMTC advanced 3.60% to Rs 804.90, extending two-day 14.94% surge. The stock rose on volume of 3.13 lakh shares, sharply higher against an average daily volume of 31,000 shares in the past two weeks. It was third biggest gainer in 'A' group.
United Breweries gained 3.60% to Rs 555.20 and was fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. The stock rose on volume of 1.20 lakh shares, higher than an average daily volume of23,000 shares in the past two weeks.
United Phosphorus rose 3.19% to Rs 119.75 after the company said its board of directors will meet on 7 May 2012 to consider share buyback proposal. The company made this announcement after market hours on Monday, 30 April 2012.
Stock With Volumes :
Sonata Software clocked volume of 54.07 lakh shares by 13:01 IST on BSE, a 89.24-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 61,000 shares. The stock jumped 8.29% to Rs 20.25.
KPIT Cummins Infosystems notched up volume of 15.35 lakh shares, a 35.3-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 43,000 shares. The stock was locked at 20% upper circuit at Rs 102.35 after consolidated net profit rose 6.4% to Rs 43.71 crore on 26.7% growth in net sales to Rs 480.01 crore in Q4 March 2012 over Q3 December 2011. KPIT CumminsInfosystems has issued strong outlook for FY 2013. The company has projected 15% to 20% growth in consolidated PAT at Rs 167 crore to Rs 174 crore on 36% to 39% growth in revenue at Rs 2040 crore to Rs 2090 crore in FY 2013 over FY 2012. The company said that irrespective of the soft macro-economic environment, the company is fairly confident of growth in the coming years.
Shriram Transport Finance Company clocked volume of 1.34 lakh shares, a 21.63-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 6,000 shares. The stock fell 0.16% to Rs 572.75.
Navin Fluorine International clocked volume of 2.47 lakh shares, a 18.3-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 14,000 shares. The stock surged 13.16% to Rs 425.10.
Hathway Cable & Datacom clocked volume of 4.31 lakh shares, a 13.22-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 33,000 shares. The stock jumped 15.85% to Rs 180.15.
