Credibility of primary markets at stake: Sebi
Market regulator Sebi today cautioned the credibility of primary markets is at stake as retail investors on many occasions are left clueless about their returns as scores of stocks are trading way below listing price.

Sensex closes off day's high; M&A target banks rally
Key equity benchmarks closed firm, but off day’s highs on Wednesday, as the passage of the Banking Amendment Bill lifted sentiment.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 1,686 shares gained and 1,345 shares fell. A total of 145 shares were unchanged.
The total turnover on the BSE amounted to Rs 2501 crore, lower than Rs 3066 crore on Tuesday, 18 December 2012.
From the 30-share Sensex pack, 23 stocks gained while the rest of them declined.
Stock With Volumes :
Volumes jump at Hathway Cable & Datacom counter, Brigade Enterprises, Prestige Estates, Alok Industries, and Liberty Phosphate are among the other stocks to see a surge in volumes on BSE today, 19 December 2012.
Hathway Cable & Datacom clocked volume of 4.21 lakh shares by 13:10 IST on BSE, a 12.46-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 34,000 shares. The stock rose 0.91% at Rs 299.15. The stock hit a record high of Rs 306 in the intraday trade today, 19 December 2012.
Brigade Enterprises notched up volume of 10.60 lakh shares, a 8.4-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 1.26 lakh shares. The stock jumped 12.43% at Rs 107.65.
Prestige Estates saw volume of 3.09 lakh shares, a 5.74-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 54,000 shares. The stock surged 5.06% to Rs 180.70.
Alok Industries clocked volume of 75.91 lakh shares, a 4.22-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 17.98 lakh shares. The stock jumped 12.14% to Rs 11.82.
Liberty Phosphate saw volume of 5.25 lakh shares, a 2.39-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 2.20 lakh shares. The stock lost 3.48% to Rs 169.
