MARKET UPDATES :
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 1,733 shares rose and 1,271 shares declined. A total of 142 shares were unchanged.
The total turnover on the BSE amounted to Rs 3051 crore, higher than Rs 2466 crore on Monday, 17 December 2012.
From the 30-share Sensex pack, 23 stocks gained while rest of them declined. Bharti Airtel (up 4.51%), Bhel (up 4.30%) and Wipro (up 1.61%) edged higher from the Sensex pack. Maruti Suzuki India (down 1.50%), ONGC (down 0.74%) and Dr Reddy's Laboratories (down 0.68%) edged lower from the Sensex pack.
Stock With Volumes :
Volumes jump at Jaiprakash Power Ventures counter, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India, Pidilite Industries, India Infoline, and Ess Dee Aluminium are among the other stocks to see a surge in volumes on BSE today, 18 December 2012.
Jaiprakash Power Ventures clocked volume of 6.65 crore shares by 13:04 IST on BSE, a 91.94-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 7.24 lakh shares. The stock tumbled 6.62% to Rs 38.80.
Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India notched up volume of 4.25 lakh shares, a 38.7-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 11,000 shares. The stock rose 0.43% to Rs 328.90.
Pidilite Industries saw volume of 7.13 lakh shares, a 21.25-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 34,000 shares. The stock lost 1.24% at Rs 211.90.
India Infoline clocked volume of 21.25 lakh shares, a 10.11-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 2.10 lakh shares. The stock jumped 4.83% to Rs 89.
Ess Dee Aluminium saw volume of 3.70 lakh shares, a 8.98-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 41,000 shares. The stock surged 16.6% to Rs 388.85.
