Strong close: Sensex surges 207pts, Nifty ends at 5908
It was a steady session as afternoon trade gathered momentum. Led by strength in banks, the market closed the day with handsome gains. The Sensex ended the day gaining 207.89 points at 19570.44 while the Nifty added 57.75 points to end at 5908.95.

Market snaps 3-day losing streak as core inflation drops to 3-year low
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 2250 crore, higher than Rs 1682 crore on Wednesday, 13 March 2013.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was negative. On BSE, 1,443 shares fell and 1,423 shares rose. A total of 118 shares were unchanged.
Among the 30-share Sensex pack, 23 stocks rose while rest of them fell.
Stock With Volumes :
Volumes jump at Bosch counter, Kennametal India, HDFC Bank, Gitanjali Gems, and Axis Bank are among the other stocks to see a surge in volumes on BSE today, 14 March 2013.
Bosch clocked volume of 63,000 shares by 13:39 IST on BSE, a 69.29-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 1,000 shares. The stock rose 0.88% to Rs 8,695.
Kennametal India notched up volume of 2.38 lakh shares, a 34.26-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 7,000 shares. The stock tumbled 9.84% to Rs 481.
HDFC Bank saw volume of 5.97 lakh shares, a 3.78-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 1.58 lakh shares. The stock rose 2% to Rs 647.80.
Gitanjali Gems clocked volume of 6.21 lakh shares, a 3.2-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 1.94 lakh shares. The stock lost 1.63% to Rs 597.40.
Axis Bank saw volume of 3.64 lakh shares, a 3.01-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 1.21 lakh shares. The stock lost 0.03% to Rs 1,347.
