SHREE GANESHAY NAMAAH !

RBI expected to keep rates on hold

Downtrend still intact, Nifty may see lower levels: Experts

Finally! There is some respite for investors. The Indian market snapped a three-day losing streak. The Nifty closed at 4,800.60, up 36 points.

The Sensex managed to climb back to the 16,000 level. It gained 132 points to shut shop at 16,002.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee touched a record low of 53.69 to the dollar today.

Today’s gain, however, has not changed experts’ view on the market. According to them, the downtrend is still intact and the Nifty could head lower.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is widely expected to keep rates on hold at its review on Friday, but economists in a new Reuters poll expect it to accelerate monetary easing in 2012 as economic conditions worsen in Asia's third-largest economy.

All but one of the 20 economists surveyed expect the RBI to keep rates on hold at its mid-quarter review on Friday.

The RBI has raised interest rates 13 times since early 2010, lifting its key lending rate, the repo rate, to 8.50%. It signalled in October an inclination to leave rates on hold in coming months on expectations that persistently high inflation will begin to ease.
