Sensex, Re slaughtered on murky IIP data: Bears 1, Bulls 0
Hopes of a pullback rally were dashed by the roaring bears, thanks to lower-than-expected October IIP data. It is now clear that India's growth engine is definitely slowing down. The first day of action-packed week was won by bears.
The benchmark index Nifty shed close to 150 points from its day high and now heading back to 4700 mark, key support area.
News flow both on global and local front has not been heartening for investors and even for the most brave-hearted traders to take a call on markets.
The Sensex closed at 15870.35 down 343.11 points or 2.12% and the Nifty ended at 4764 down 102.10 points or 2.10%. The breadth of the market remained dismal for most part of the day with 825 shares advancing, 1954 shares declining and 960 shares remain unchanged.
Poor IIP data reflects weakness in manufacturing demand. Metal stocks have direct correlation as prices of commodities are mainly driven by demand and supply.
Nifty may see a relief rally, but 4700 is certain: Experts
Nothing is going right for the Indian benchmark indices. Global woes coupled with domestic issues are making investors wary of the Indian market.
The October Index of Industrial Production (IIP) witnessed a sharp de-growth of 5.1%. That led to a sharp fall in the Nifty. It ended at 4,764, down 102.10 points or 2.10%, while the Sensex closed at 15,870.35, down 343.11 points or 2.12%.
According to experts, a relied rally is possible. However, they strongly believe that there is more downside to the market and the Nifty may slip below 4,700.

Wipro leads gainers in 'A' group
Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Aurobindo Pharma, Gitanjali Gems and GlenmarkPharmaceuticals are among the other gainers.
India's third largest software services exporter by revenue Wipro rose 2.56% to Rs 414.55.The stock topped the gainers in the BSE's 'A' group. IT stocks rose on strong economicdata in the US, the biggest outsourcing market for Indian IT firms.
In US economic data, the trade deficit narrowed in October for the fourth month in a row, as oil exports helped to offset record imports from China. The October deficit was smaller than Wall Street expectations. Separately, an early reading on consumer sentiment in December topped expectations.
A weak rupee also supported IT stocks. The rupee eased on Monday weighed by dollar demand from oil refiners. The partially convertible rupee was at 52.52/53 per dollar, weaker than Friday's close of 52.03/04, but stronger from the day's low of 52.66 -- near the record low of 52.73 touched on 22 November 2011. A weak rupee boosts revenue of IT firms in rupee terms as the sector derives a lion's share of revenue from exports.
Meanwhile, Wipro Technologies, the global information technology, consulting and outsourcing business of Wipro, recently announced its plans to create a focused global unit called Business Operation Unit, which will enable Wipro to deliver differentiated value for clients with seamless, predictable execution. It will consolidate its business applicationservices, global delivery, quality and IS teams under the newly formed Business Operation Unit.
