Nifty, Sensex rise 1%; ICICI, SBI, Larsen lead gainers
Indian equity benchmarks gained 1 percent, helped by short covering ahead of December expiry tomorrow. Banking and financials stocks led the rally with the BSE Bankex gaining 1.6 percent.

MARKET UPDATES :
The total turnover on the BSE amounted to Rs 1948 crore, higher than Rs 1636 crore on Monday, 24 December 2012.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 1,514 shares rose and 1,416 shares fell. A total of 136 shares were unchanged.
From the 30-share Sensex pack, 22 stocks gained while the rest of them fell.
Stock With Volumes :
Volumes jump at IndusInd Bank counter, Bajaj Finserv, Jindal Saw, Container Corporation of India, and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services are among the other stocks to see a surge in volumes on BSE today, 26 December 2012.
IndusInd Bank clocked volume of 34.16 lakh shares by 13:08 IST on BSE, a 36.21-times surge over two-week average daily volume of 94 ,000shares. The stock lost 0.36% to Rs 423.90 after three block deals aggregating 32.75 lakh shares were executed on BSE.
Two block deals of 8.125 lakh shares each were executed at Rs 423 and Rs 424 per share at 9:15 IST. Another block deal of 16.5 lakh shares was executed at Rs 424.80 per share at 9:19 IST. The three block deals constitute 0.62% of IndusInd Bank's equity.
Bajaj Finserv notched up volume of 8.17 lakh shares, a 25.09-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 33,000 shares. The stock rose 2.49% to Rs 910 after two block deals aggregating 7.89 lakh shares were executed on BSE at Rs 900 per share.
A block deal of 5.13 lakh shares was executed at Rs 900 per share at 10:45 IST. Another block deal of 2.76 lakh shares was executed at Rs 900 per share at 10:46 IST. The block deals constitute 0.49% of Bajaj Finserv's equity.
Jindal Saw saw volume of 15.88 lakh shares, a 15.55-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 1.02 lakh shares. The stock surged 3.49% to Rs 127.65.
Container Corporation of India clocked volume of 1.07 lakh shares, a 11.08-fold surge over two-week average daily volume of 10,000 shares. The stock rose 0.12% to Rs 923.
Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services saw volume of 5.75 lakh shares, a 6.14-fold rise over two-week average daily volume of 94,000 shares. The stock rose 1.52% to Rs 1,119.85.
